Charter Boat Captain, Dive Instructor, Commercial Diver


Jay Hanson is owner of Superior SCUBA Center and Superior Scuba Charters in Duluth, MN. The dedication to his customers and the sport of diving shines through if you’ve ever taken a class or gone diving with him. Jay and Superior SCUBA Center and Superior SCUBA Charters prides itself on offering expert, comprehensive instruction, interesting charter locations, reliable commercial work and the best gear available in the area. Jay is a premier dive instructor and very accomplished diver certified from basic scuba to Advanced Trimix Nitrox/Decompression and Closed Circuit Rebreathers (CCR). When he is not running charters or diving recreationally you’ll find Jay diving commercially, at all hours of the day and night, in the Great Lakes. This involves repairing and inspecting the cargo ship’s hull and equipment below the water both outside and inside the hull for ballast tanks. He is a member of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society (GLSPS) and volunteers his boat, expertise, and time furthering the GLSPS goals and projects. Jay is a very hard-working, “always moving” gent with a heart of service. He is somewhat a “collector of boats”. At current count he owns three. The Superior Wreckreation a custom 36' Willard Marine dive boat, the Seahawk 41’ dive boat/cabin cruiser, and recently traded his tug boat for the 63’ Winona. Jay is married to Theresa and they have (4) children and live in Duluth.
